Ann Skelton (video message)
Chair, United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child
Ann Skelton is a Professor of Law at the University of Leiden and the University of Pretoria. She has worked as a children’s rights lawyer in South Africa for over 30 years and has argued several landmark child rights cases in the Constitutional Court. Her global influence has been recognised through the Juvenile Justice Without Borders award (2017) and the honorary World’s Children’s Prize (2012). Ann has also served as chairperson of the Advisory Board of the United Nations Global Study on Children Deprived of their Liberty, and she was appointed as a Global Ambassador for the British Society of Criminology.
Ann is currently a member of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, having been elected in 2020 for a second term of office. From 2021 to 2023, she chaired the working group on communications.
