Unicef Luxembourg
UNICEF works in over 190 countries and territories to protect the rights of every child. For nearly 80 years, it has been committed to ensuring that every child has a fair chance in life, including access to healthcare, education, clean water, protection and opportunities to play and develop.
Mandated by the United Nations General Assembly, UNICEF advocates for children’s rights, helps meet their essential needs and supports their full development. Its work is guided by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and is carried out without discrimination. UNICEF collaborates with governments, UN agencies and a wide range of local and international partners.
Its activities focus on six key areas: education; water, sanitation and hygiene; nutrition; protection from violence, exploitation and abuse; health; and humanitarian action.
UNICEF Luxembourg, founded in 1979, plays a key role in raising awareness of children’s rights and mobilising support for UNICEF’s global programmes. As a non-profit organisation (association sans but lucratif), it relies entirely on voluntary contributions from donors to carry out its work.
The organisation is governed by a General Assembly and a Board of Directors. The General Assembly defines the organisation’s strategic direction and approves budgets and accounts, while the Board oversees its management. Day-to-day operations are carried out by a permanent team covering administration, fundraising, communications, education and project monitoring, supported by a network of volunteers.
