Annemieke Wolthuis

Dr Annemieke Wolthuis is a lawyer and mediator specialising in children’s rights and youth law. She studied law at Maastricht University, with a focus on communication techniques and problem-based learning, and gained additional experience in human and children’s rights through studies and internships in Sweden and Switzerland.


She worked for ten years at Defence for Children International in Amsterdam and completed a PhD in 2012 on restorative justice and children’s rights, aiming to strengthen its role within the Dutch juvenile justice system. She has also worked as a university researcher and with the Verwey-Jonker Institute.


Annemieke is currently a trainer, mediator, and deputy juvenile court judge at the Rotterdam District Court. She collaborates with Restorative Justice Nederland and has served as Vice-Chair of the European Forum for Restorative Justice for the past six years. Her work focuses on training in personal and family law, children’s rights, and juvenile justice.
