New EU Pact on Asylum and Migration: DCI Europe joint position
The European Commission launched a consultation on the New Pact on Migration and Asylum on 30 July 2020. The public consultation ended on 27 August 2020. The European sections of Defence for Children International responded to the consultation in order to point out several important principles regarding the rights of the children in migration.
We advocated for:
- the non-refoulement and the respect of the legal obligations of States
- due process guarantees and access to justice
- safe legal pathways
- the Child-Friendly Justice principles to be at the core of EU policy
- the end of children detention
As a transversal priority, the best interests of the child should be a prism through which the new EU Pact should be developed.
